In 1983, Jim and Suzanne Amstutz founded Central Ohio Power Tool as a small tool repair shop in Columbus, Ohio. As business grew, they dropped the “Central” off the name and the company expanded into a primary tool distributor for contractors and businesses nationwide.

Still family-owned and operated nearly 30 years later, Ohio Power Tool (OPT) is now run by son Jay Amstutz as a full-service partner to the trades, selling tools as well as offering rentals, repair services, and Training Sessions from our experienced Safety Specialists to teach our customers and affiliates about important safety products and practices. With products available from over 120 manufacturers like Milwaukee, DeWalt, RIDGID, and more, OPT continues to grow exponentially each year. In fact, in 2021 we expanded our local showroom to launch Trade Pro Outfitters--our store-within-a-store offering a variety of safety products and apparel for trades professionals.
